Jennifer M. Granholm is a highly accomplished individual who made a significant impact in Michigan during her time as governor. She was elected as governor in 2002 and re-elected in 2006, receiving the largest number of votes in Michigan's history for a governor. Currently, Granholm is the Managing Partner of Ridge-Lane LP. She manages the firm's sustainability efforts and holds several academic positions. Granholm is a teacher of policy at the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley, a Senior Research Fellow at the Berkeley Energy and Climate Institute, and a Senior Fellow at the Berkeley Center for Information Technology Research in the Interests of Society. She also serves on the advisory board of The University of Chicago's Institute of Politics. During her time as governor, Granholm introduced the No Worker Left Behind program, which offered state-paid tuition for displaced adults to attend a community college or technical school for job training, resulting in a 75% job placement or retention rate, the best in the nation. Her efforts increased community college enrollment by 50% between 2000 and 2010, and Michigan was named one of the top three states for business locations or expansions. She was praised for her commitment to creating jobs in Michigan, with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation bringing in almost 4,000 companies or expansions and creating over 653,000 jobs. Her leadership led to Michigan being named one of the best-managed states in the nation and improving job market conditions, according to the Gallup Job Creation Index. Before becoming governor, Granholm served as a judicial clerk and a federal prosecutor in Detroit and was appointed Wayne County Corporation Counsel before being elected Michigan's first female attorney general in 1998.
