Jeff Yang is an American writer, journalist, businessman, and business/media consultant who writes the Wall Street Journal's Tao Jones column. He formerly worked as the San Francisco Chronicle's Asian Pop writer. Yang now resides in New York City. Yang's books include Once Upon a Time in China: A Guide to the Cinemas of Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Mainland China, I Am Jackie Chan: My Life in Action (co-written with Jackie Chan), Eastern Standard Time: A Guide to Asian Influence in American Culture, from Astro Boy to Zen Buddhism, and Secret Identities: The Asian American Superhero Anthology. He recently co-wrote Shattered: The Asian American Comics Anthology, the second graphic novel in the Secret Identities series. He has also contributed to the Village Voice, VIBE, Spin, and Condé Nast Portfolio. Yang also works as a business/media consultant for Iconoculture, Inc. on marketing to Asian American customers. Yang was the CEO of Factor, Inc., another Asian American marketing company, prior to joining Iconoculture. Yang was the publisher of A Magazine, the largest circulating English-language Asian American magazine in the United States, from 1989 to 2002, when it went out of business. The journal evolved from an undergraduate publication he produced while attending Harvard University. Stir, the first Asian American television program, was created by Yang. Yang earned a B.A. in psychology from Harvard in 1989. He belongs to the Asian American Journalists Association and has served on the boards of the Asian American Justice Center and the China Institute in America. Yang is married to Heather Ying and the father of Hudson Yang, who stars in the ABC pilot Fresh Off the Boat, which is based on Eddie Huang's novel Fresh Off the Boat: A Memoir.
