Jay Galbraith Biography

Dr. Jay Galbraith was Professor of Management and Organization at the University of Southern California until 2000. He is also Senior Research Scientist at the Centre for Effective Organization and Professor of Management and Organization at the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne. Dr. Galbraith has a background in organizational design, transformation, and development, with a focus on international partnership arrangements such as joint ventures and network organizations. His research has focused on the establishment and growth of joint ventures between Asian and Western firms. He is now investigating the fast reconfiguration of organizational units in order to satisfy the changing demands of cross-border consumers and marketplaces. His research has served as the foundation for several papers in professional journals, as well as the six books he has written. His most recent books are The Global Organization and Designing Organizations: An Executive Briefing on Strategy, Structure, and Process. Prior to joining the USC faculty, Dr. Galbraith had his own management consulting business. He has also taught at the MIT Sloan School of Management and the Pennsylvania University Wharton School. He has worked as a consultant for a number of corporations and organizations in the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America.
