Jason Pontin Biography

Editor-in-chief and publisher of MIT Technology Review, Pontin leads the organization’s mission to identify breakthrough technologies and decipher how they will change lives for the better. He is responsible for the publication’s editorial direction, media platforms and business strategy of the rapidly expanding U.S. and international websites, award-winning print magazine, videos, newsletters, business reports and live events such as EmTech, the company’s annual conference focused on emerging technologies.

An innovator in his own industry, Pontin has engaged in what The Boston Globe has described as a “strategic overhaul” of MIT Technology Review since joining the organization in 2004. He relaunched the 100+-year publication in October 2012 as a “digital-first enterprise,” a move that has been said “could set the standard for the transition to a digital future for legacy media.”

Earlier in his career, he was editor of Red Herring, a business and technology publication popular during the dot-com boom for six years. Pontin has written for numerous national and international magazines and newspapers, including The New York Times, The Economist, The Financial Times, The Boston Globe and Wired, and is a frequent guest on television and radio. He is chairman of MIT Enterprise Forum and a senior advisor to human capital venture firm Cue Ball, where he focuses on deal development and evaluation.

Pontin was educated in England at the Harrow School and University of Oxford.
