Jason Ballard Biography

Jason Ballard has devoted his life to tackling significant issues in the service of humanity. Most recently and significantly, he served as the co-founder and CEO of ICON, a company that develops technologies for the construction industry and uses large-scale 3D printing to address the global housing crisis and get ready to colonize extraterrestrial worlds. ICON has been recognized by Fast Company as one of the most innovative businesses in the world and is always establishing new benchmarks for the quick and affordable delivery of durable, dignified housing. ICON has produced neighborhoods of 3D-printed houses in the United States and abroad and has established collaborations with famous architects, builders, and housing groups with the objective of changing the paradigm of homebuilding. So far, ICON has raised $266 million in investment. ICON received a research contract from the Air Force in the fall of 2020, along with money from NASA to start researching and developing an off-world building system intended to enable future lunar and extraterrestrial exploration. Ballard worked as CEO of an eco-friendly home improvement business that mainstreamed sustainable and healthful methods of house remodeling before he co-founded ICON. Ballard held a variety of positions in the sustainable building before starting his own business. He also served as an environmental consultant for ACRT. Ballard sat in the Carbon War Room/Rocky Mountain Institute Energy Think Tank and is a GLG Social Impact Fellow. Ballard is from East Texas and attended Texas A&M University to study conservation biology. He is presently enrolling in the Colorado School of Mines' master's degree in Space Resources. When he has leisure time, he likes astronomy, ultrarunning, chess, comic books, and outdoor hobbies. Along with his devoted wife and four children, he resides in Austin, Texas.
