Janet Gonzalez-Mena Biography

Janet Gonzalez-Mena is presently self-employed and does workshops, lectures, and training on baby and toddler care, diversity, parenting, and early childhood education in general. She also enjoys taking on initiatives. She is now working on developing diversity training for child care services with California Tomorrow. She spends her time at home writing books and articles while she is not working outdoors. She's now working on two co-authored novels. One is a college textbook on child development that looks at the cultural environment of development. Her co-author is a Chilean who now calls Canada home. Knowing Children and Using the Knowledge is the title of the other book, and the co-author is from Australia. Janet spends a lot of time on her computer, checking her e-mail. Janet left community college teaching in June 1998 after 24 years. She began her career as a preschool teacher in the 1960s and has also worked as a child care director and an ESL instructor. Janet interned with Magda Gerber, a Los Angeles newborn expert while studying Human Development at Pacific Oaks. Since 1990, she has been a member of WestEd's visiting faculty for the Program for Infant-Toddler Caregivers. Janet is the mother of five children, the youngest of whom was born at the age of 27 weeks. For his first three years, he was enrolled in an infant stimulation program. My pastime, I suppose, is writing. It seems like I'm always doing it. It's not all work-related. Janet enjoys reading, hiking, and being outside. She lives on 20 acres in the country and has built a labyrinth in the backyard. Labyrinths and other old spiritual practices fascinate her.
