Janet Choi Biography

Janet Choi reports on community-driven social issues within Los Angeles. For the four years prior to KTLA she was the senior international correspondent at Channel One News traveling to over 42 countries to bring the world issues into context to America’s young people. During this time she won a Gold Telly and a Gold Hugo from the Chicago International Television Awards for a clandestine report from inside North Korea. In a follow-up documentary called Secret Lives she traveled with Christian missionaries along the border between North Korea and China reporting on the North Korean refugee situation. During Operation Iraqi Freedom Janet was one of the youngest television reporters overseas and one of a scant few women embedded on the Navy’s USS Constellation. Since joining Channel One News in 2000 she has visited war-torn Colombia to investigate its infamous cocaine trail secretly penetrated China’s strictly monitored borders during the U.S. spy plane incident flown a relief mission over Afghanistan as well as investigating the cause of heightened deforestation and reporting on the return of valuable forestland to Brazil’s indigenous Panara Indians.
