James Marsh Biography

James Marsh is an Academy Award-winning documentary and narrative filmmaker. He first received critical attention for his 2000 debut Washington Death Trip. In 2008 he won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for directing Man on Wire about Philippe Petit's walk between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York. In 2009 he directed the acclaimed 1980 episode of The Red Riding Trilogy. His most recent film is “Project Nim” based on the book Nim Chimpsky: The Chimp Who Would Be Human by Elizabeth Hess. It is a documentary about the landmark study conducted by Herbert S. Terrace on the subject of animal language acquisition and the subject of the study is a chimpanzee named Nim Chimpsky.
