James Chapmyn Biography

James Chapman was homeless living in abandoned buildings. However once he sat down to write his note he kept on writing. The suicide note is now the first piece in his musical play Our Young Black Men Are Dying and Nobody Seems to Care a stark look at the problems that grip the lives of urban youths and the apathy that seems to engulf them. Eventually a Baptist church in Dayton OH asked him to stage a play and launched his career with his off-Broadway play. Since then he has done graduate work at Trinity Lutheran Seminary and undergraduate work at Bethel College. For four years he worked as an associate minister/minister of outreach at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Colombus. Chapmyn received special training in AIDS education through the Ohio Department of Health and subsequently was a health specialist in AIDS education for the Columbus Urban League in which he designed an award winning AIDS education program to reach local black community.
