About Ivan Neville

Ivan Neville Biography

Ivan Neville (born August 19, 1959 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is a musician, singer, and composer who plays a variety of instruments. He is Aaron Neville's son and the nephew of the Neville Brothers. He has four solo albums to his credit, including a Top 40 Billboard smash with Not Just Another Girl from his debut solo album, "If My Ancestors Could See Me Now." In 1989, his second song, "Falling Out of Love," peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 and was included on the soundtrack for the John Ritter picture, "Skin Deep." While it was never a major charting hit, Neville's Why Can't I Fall In Love has become a surprise fan favorite, thanks to its appearance on the soundtrack of the Christian Slater film Pump Up The Volume in 1990. Neville has performed and recorded with the Neville Brothers as well as on his father's solo albums. He played keyboards on two Rolling Stones albums, "Dirty Work" (1986) and "Voodoo Lounge" (1994), as well as being a member of Keith Richards' solo band, the X-Pensive Winos. After releasing "Talk is Cheap," he toured with Richards in 1988, and has been the opening act for the performances since "If My Ancestors Could See Me Now," was published. Aside from appearing on the records of Don Henley, Bonnie Raitt, Robb Robertson, Rufus, Paula Abdul, and Delbert McClinton, he was a member of the Spin Doctors, touring and recording on the group's album "Here Comes The Bride" in 1999–2000, including taking over lead vocal duties when Chris Barron lost his voice. In 2002, he established his own band, Dumpstaphunk, and played on the "Late Show with David Letterman," among other locations. In 2007, he collaborated on a tribute album to fellow New Orleans artist Fats Domino alongside Dumstaphunk and B.B. King, providing his rendition of the title song to "Goin' Home: A Tribute to Fats Domino" (Vanguard Records). Neville, along with other New Orleans musicians, has been engaged in presenting benefit performances in support of Hurricane Katrina organizations through the Tipitina's Foundation.
