He was the 2002 Indiana Sportscaster of the Year, and in 2009 Howard was inducted into the Indiana Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame.

Howard has broadcast the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians games for 35 years and he did the play-by-play of the Triple-A world Series on ESPN2 from 2006-2008. Howard also has broadcast for the Cleveland Cavaliers and St. John's Red Storm.
