Shah met his business partner Neil Patel through Patel's sister who Shah was dating at the time.
At the time Patel was still in high school and Shah was just graduating college.
In 2002 Shah and Patel founded Advanced Consulting Services (ACS) an online marketing firm.
By 2007 the company was implementing strategies for many Fortune 500 companies.
In 2006 the business partners founded their second company Crazy Egg an analytics software which allows website owners to analyze behavior on their website through heatmaps of visitors clicks.
Shah and Patel founded KISSmetrics an online analytics platform in 2008.
Shah currently acts as President of KISSmetrics.
