Though she wasn't a winner she won many hearts and inspired a $50000 award The Science in Action Award given to projects that make a practical difference to the lives of a group or community. Her project aims to eliminate voltage fluctuations in rural and remote areas of the world using renewable energy sources. Competing against 10000 students from 91 countries who submitted their projects online Harine advanced from the top 60 semifinalists to the top 15 finalists who were flown to Google Headquarters in Mountain View California to compete in the final event. There she presented her project to a panel of luminary judges and finished a tie winner in her category. Harine has also been a Silver Medalist for India at the International Junior Science Olympiad 2010. She volunteers for the AID India program and designs modules to educate rural children from impoverished backgrounds. She is going to attend Stanford University in the Fall of 2012. Harine intends to pursue a career in research in the fields of physics and electrical engineering while exploring her fervent interest in areas like Behavioral Ecology and Computer Programming.
