Over a 35-year career, he has been known for his technical expertise and attentive response. His passion, curiosity, and drive are reflected in his hands-on approach to all elements of the image-making process. He has shot luminaries ranging from Bill Clinton to Bruce Springsteen, but he is arguably best recognized for his more than 70 TIME Magazine cover pictures. Many other publications, including Life, Esquire, Fortune, GQ, GEO, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, and the New York Times, have included his famous pictures and creative visual essays on their covers and pages. He's also shot big advertising campaigns for American Express, Benson & Hedges, Dewar's, Ford, Guinness, Marlboro, Merrill-Lynch, Nike, Pfizer, Reebok, and United Technologies. Another major aspect of Gregory's work is private portrait commissions. His lithographic print of Mayor Edward I. Koch was the first photographic portrait for New York City Hall. Gregory just finished large-scale portraits of well-known authors and actors for the National Arts Club in New York City. Among his numerous honors are the Alfred Eisenstadt Award and the Leica Medal of Excellence. Gregory has been featured in American Photo, Communication Arts, Esquire, Life, and a variety of industry publications. He has the titles of Canon Explorer of Light, Ilford Master, and X-Rite Coloratti. He is a sought-after speaker and educator who has taught at dozens of workshops and seminars around the country and abroad. Gregory began a new position as distinguished professor of photography at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in the autumn of 2014.
