Graham Elliot Bowles, a professional chef residing in Chicago, Illinois, was born on January 4, 1977. Elliot's first job after culinary school was working under Chef Dean Fearing at the Mansion on Turtle Creek, a five-diamond/five-star resort in Dallas. He then proceeded to Woodstock, Vermont's Jackson House Inn & Restaurant. He was awarded one of the Ten Best New Chefs of 2004 by Food & Wine Magazine while he was there. Elliot then relocated to Chicago to work at TRU under the direction of the legendary Charlie Trotter and Rick Tramonto. He went on to work at Avenues at The Peninsula hotel in Chicago, where he garnered a lot of praise. Avenue received four stars from the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, and Chicago Magazine, as well as a AAA Five Diamond Award, during Elliot's tenure. On the TV show Iron Chef America in 2007, Elliot competed against Iron Chef Bobby Flay with the secret ingredient of chocolate. Elliot put up a valiant effort but fell to Flay by a score of 49-47. He made an appearance on NBC's Today Show. In May 2008, he established the eponymous Graham Elliot, which was both his first and Chicago's first bistronomic restaurant. The 2011 MICHELIN Guide, earned two stars from the Chicago Tribune, two and a half stars from the Chicago Sun-Times, and one star from the Chicago Sun-Times. He made an appearance on the TV program Top Chef Masters in 2009. He cooked for The Heart and Stroke Foundation on the show since his nephew needed a heart transplant. Three times he's been nominated for a James Beard Award. Elliot joined Chef Gordon Ramsay and winemaker/restaurateur Joe Bastianich as judges on the American edition of the reality show MasterChef in 2010. Grahamwich, his second Chicago restaurant, opened as well. He was the Culinary Ambassador for Lollapalooza 2010, a three-day music event in Chicago, where he prepared for both the general public and the musicians backstage. Based on samples offered during what was supposed to be a media sampling party, Chicago Magazine published a piece in which writer Cassie Walker unflatteringly criticized Elliot's menu selections. Elliot retaliated with a profanity-laced tweet that included obscenities addressed at Walker and the publication. Despite the incident, Elliott was asked back to perform at Lollapalooza in 2011.
