George Stephanopoulos is an American television journalist and political commentator. He is most famous for being the chief anchor and political correspondent for ABC News, co-anchor of “Good Morning America,” and host of “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” He is a native of Fall River, Massachusetts, the son of Greek-American parents.
He graduated from Columbia University and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, earning a master’s in theology. Stephanopoulos first broke onto the national scene as a key aide to President Bill Clinton, serving as his White House communications director and senior advisor from 1993 to 1996. He transitioned into journalism following his time in the West Wing, moderating presidential debates and covering major events for ABC News. In 2007, he earned the Cronkite Award for his “On the Trail” series, which took Stephanopoulos to candidates’ homes to give insight into their upbringing.
