George Gallup Jr. Biography

Mr. Gallup has been involved in polling for more than half a century, much of it with the Gallup Poll. He was President of the Gallup Poll and Co-Chairman of The Gallup Organization for many years. Mr. George Gallup has supervised more than 100 national surveys on religion and spirituality, which has been the subject of most of his work throughout the years. In 1977, he and sociologist Dr. Miriam Murphy launched the Princeton Religion Research Center to study the nature and depth of religion in the United States and throughout the world through surveys. Mr. Gallup serves on the boards of the John T. Templeton Foundation and the Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry, as well as a number of other local and national organizations. Mr. Gallup graduated from Princeton University's Department of Religion with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1954. In the fields of law, religion, science, and letters, he has seven honorary degrees. He is the author of a number of publications, including Surveying the Religious Landscape, The New American Spirituality, Growing Up Scared in America, and The Saints Among Us, among others.
