Frank Darabont Biography

Frank Darabont began working in the film industry when he was 20 years old. One of his earliest films was a short adaptation of Stephen King's The Woman in the Room, which was nominated for an Academy Award in 1983 and made the semi-finalist list. The handshake agreement rights to another of Stephen King's shorter pieces, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, which appeared in the anthology Different Seasons, led to a tight contact with him. Buried Alive (1990), a TV movie for the USA cable network, marked Darabont's feature-length directorial debut. He rose to prominence after fulfilling his handshake agreement with Stephen King and writing and directing The Shawshank Redemption (1994), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Writing an Adapted Screenplay. The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture, however, he did not receive an Oscar nomination for Best Director.
