Feike Sijbesma Biography

Since July 2000, he has served on the Board of Directors, and he has served as Chairman since May 2007. He is also a World Bank Group Global Climate Leader and Co-Chair of the group's Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition's High Level Assembly. Feike Sijbesma (Dutch) earned a degree in Medical Biology from the University of Utrecht and a master's degree in Business Administration from Erasmus University in Rotterdam (both in the Netherlands). In 1987, he joined Gist-brocades' Industrial Pharmaceuticals branch, where he was in charge of strategic planning and commercial growth. He was the division's Marketing and Sales Director from 1990 until 1993. Following that, he was appointed to manage Savoury Ingredients, which eventually became a business unit of Gist-brocades' Food Specialties Division. In 1995, he was appointed director of the division and joined the Executive Committee of Gist-brocades. Following Royal DSM's purchase in 1998, he was appointed Director of the business group DSM Food Specialties. Feike joined DSM's Managing Board of Directors in 2000. On May 1, 2007, he was appointed CEO and Chairman of the Managing Board of Royal DSM. The University of Maastricht (the Netherlands) awarded Feike an honorary doctorate in January 2013 in appreciation of how he exemplifies DSM's value generation for all stakeholders, which is based on the company's fundamental principle, sustainability.
