Ethan Brown Biography

Since Beyond Meat's establishment in 2009, Ethan Brown has served as President and Chief Executive Officer, as well as a member of our board of directors. Beyond Meat is a plant-based meat substitute company located in Los Angeles that makes products to replicate chicken, beef, and pork sausage. Beyond Meat was selected as the 2013 business of the year by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. In July of this year, the firm went public with a $1.5 billion value. Mr. Brown began his career as an energy analyst for the National Governors Center for Best Practices, focusing on renewable energy and the environment. He subsequently went on to work at Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ: BLDP), a hydrogen fuel-cell business, where he rose through the ranks from entry-level manager to reporting directly to the CEO before quitting to start Beyond Meat. Mr. Brown also founded and operated a fuel reformation facility and has held a number of roles in the sector, including Vice Chairman of the Board of The National Hydrogen Association and Secretary of the United States Fuel Cell Council. He is a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute and the winner of the United Nation's highest environmental honor, Champion of the Earth, with Beyond Meat (2018). Mr. Brown has a Columbia University MBA and a University of Maryland MPP with an emphasis on the environment.
