Eric works at Google as a vice president of infrastructure. Based on his research at UC Berkeley, he pioneered the use of commodity server clusters for Internet applications. His "CAP Theorem" addresses the fundamental choices that must be made in the design of distributed systems and derive from his work on a wide range of systems, including live services, caching and distribution services, and sensor networks. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the recipient of the ACM Infosys Foundation Award for large-scale services work.
