Eldar Shafir Biography

Eldar Shafir is the William Stewart Tod professor of psychology and public affairs at Princeton University and co-director of Ideas42, a social science research and development lab. His research interests are at the intersection of psychology, decision-making, and behavioral economics. Most recently, Shafir has focused on decision-making in contexts of poverty and on applications of behavioral research to policy. A central theme is the tension between normative assumptions and empirical findings, the implications for the design and implementation of policy, and for our understanding of human behavior more generally. He is a faculty associate of the Institute for Quantitative Social Science at Harvard University and a research affiliate of Innovations for Poverty Action. Shafir has received several awards and has held visiting positions in a number of academic institutions in the US, Israel, and Europe.
