Effie Brown Biography

Effie T. Brown, a Los Angeles-based producer, graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a degree in Film Production and Theater before participating in Film Independent's Project Involve, an intense fellowship for those interested in a career in the film business. She began her career as Director of Development at Tim Burton Productions. Effie created Duly Noted, Inc. after producing many feature films at varying production levels. They are the driving force behind highly acclaimed HBO films such as STRANGER INSIDE, REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES, and EVERYDAY PEOPLE. REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES took home the Audience Award and the Special Jury Prize for Ensemble at the Sundance Film Festival. She also executive produced IN THE CUT, directed by Jane Campion, in collaboration with Sony Screen Gems and Pathe International. Brown's film ROCKET SCIENCE was awarded the Sundance Grand Jury Prize for Directing in 2007 and was nominated for Best Feature, Best Screenplay, and Best Actress by the Independent Spirit Awards. She specialized in digital episodic programming and created over 130 episodes of WIGS, an award-winning, original video channel supported by Google/YouTube. WIGS, the number one scripted channel on YouTube right now, has recently been picked up for wider distribution on Hulu. DEAR WHITE PEOPLE, her most recent film, earned the Special Jury Prize for Breakthrough Talent at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and was released theatrically the following fall. Effie was most recently cast in the Matt Damon and Ben Affleck revival of Project Greenlight, which will broadcast on HBO in the fall of 2015. She joins the team as a mentor and producer to the filmmaking competition winner.
