He went to Los Angeles in the early 1990s, where he would go on to have multiple guest-starring parts and show pilots for networks including Fox, NBC, and HBO. He starred in various one-man performances in California, including Commencement Speech, Life & Other Short Stories, and The Business of Living. The primary character in The Business of Living, Jack Freeman, a motivational speaker/success guru, had a modest cult following in California and has grown in popularity across the Midwest. He received a rare standing ovation on The Tonight Show while residing in Los Angeles.
