Sky ProCycling, British Cycling, Liverpool Football Club, England Football, England Rugby, World Championship Snooker, British Swimming, and Great Britain Taekwondo are among his present and previous involvements in over twenty Olympic, Paralympic, and non-Olympic sports. He began his career teaching mathematics before moving on to medicine. For the past two decades, he has worked in the clinical field of psychiatry, most recently as Clinical Director of Mental Health Services at Bassetlaw Trust and then at Rampton Secure Hospital. Steve has been a Senior Clinical Lecturer and Undergraduate Dean at Sheffield University since 1994. He has postgraduate credentials in Sports Medicine, Education, and Psychiatry, as well as degrees in Mathematics, Medicine, and Medical Education (Masters's Degree). He is a Royal College member who serves on the College Membership Panel for exams. He is a member of the UK Sports Therapeutic Use Exemption Panel and a WADA expert witness (World Anti-doping Agency). His area of expertise is the human mind and how it may be trained to operate at its best in all aspects of life. He is also the author of ‘The Chimp Paradox,' a best-selling personal development book. Steve enjoys competing in track and field and has won numerous World Masters Championships and set World Records in the 100, 200, and 400 meters.
