Dr. I.P. Park Biography

HARMAN International's Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer is I.P. Park. As CTO, I.P. is in charge of the company's technological strategy and oversees all R&D operations. He directs advanced research initiatives as a member of HARMAN's Executive Committee, bringing new thought leadership into HARMAN products and solutions. In February of 2012, he joined HARMAN. Prior to joining HARMAN, I.P. was Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Intelligent Computing Laboratory (formerly known as Computer Science Lab or Software Lab) from 2006 until 2011. He led advanced software research and development teams to create Samsung's future software innovations, as well as providing company-wide leadership in core software research, standardization, and open source initiatives. He established the STAR Center, a Samsung cooperative research lab with Georgia Tech, and the CIC, a Samsung combined research lab with Seoul National University (Center for Intelligent Computing). I.P. worked at Panasonic Princeton Laboratory as a Lead Scientist and later Department Head of Platform and Security Technologies from 2001 until 2006. He focused on operating system security, embedded Linux systems, and software-defined radio-safe downloads. I.P. was a founder member of the Consumer Electronics Linux Forum (CELF), an international open-source software development community, and served as the chair of the Architecture Group. The CELF 1.0 standard definition and source tree were published under his guidance, establishing CELF as a global leader in Linux CE adaption and improvements. I.P. worked at Timecruiser Computing Corporation, an Internet software firm specialized in Java-based enterprise solutions, from 1999 to 2001 as Director and subsequently Senior Director of Software Development. CampusCruiser and SchoolCruiser, two main products created and released by I.P., rapidly became the nation's top education enterprise portals. I.P. worked as a computer science professor at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) from 1993 until 1999. He was also a visiting researcher at Bellcore at this time. I.P. holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Seoul National University, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Columbia University.
