Dr. David Shore Biography

One of America’s leading authorities on managing change initiatives and gaining competitive advantage, David A. Shore, PhD is a former Associate Dean of Harvard University’s School of Public Health. During his two decades as a Harvard faculty member and Executive Director of the School’s Center for Continuing Professional Education, Shore founded and directed the flagship executive programs -- Forces of Change: New Strategies for the Evolving Health Care Marketplace; The Trust Initiative; and the Certificate Program on Launching and Leading Successful Change Initiatives. The later program is based on the Project Activation Management System (PAMS) which he developed.

He has served on and chaired numerous boards and committees, and currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Marshfield Clinic Health System as well as several editorial boards. A prolific author, his books include: "The Trust Prescription for Healthcare: Building Your Reputation with Consumers"; "The Trust Crisis in Healthcare: Causes, Consequences, and Cures"; "High Stakes: The Critical Role of Stakeholders in Health Care" (with Eric D. Kupferberg); and, "Forces of Change: New Strategies for the Evolving Health Care Marketplace." His forthcoming book, "Launching and Leading Successful Change Initiatives: Project Management for Health Care Organizations," will be published by Jossey-Bass in 2014. Shore has been interviewed on various aspects of becoming a higher performing organization in such publications as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, INC, and Modern Healthcare.

Prior to joining Harvard, Dr. Shore served in leadership roles at The Joint Commission, the Healthcare Financial Management Association, and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Shore chaired the first, second and third national Executive Conferences on Branding, Positioning, and Competitive Strategies. He has had the honor to deliver the keynote address for four annual Corporate Branding Conferences of the American Management Association. He chaired and delivered the keynote address at all three of the World Congress Leadership Summits on Project Management. He has consulted on six continents and has been selected to deliver more than 100 named and keynote addresses throughout the world. Participants frequently comment that he brings his passion to the podium.

Shore is currently Adjunct Professor of Organizational Development and Change in the Business School, University of Monterrey, Mexico, Lecturer at Harvard University Extension School, and a faculty member of The Governance Institute. He is also Executive in Residence at Enable East, a National Health Service (NSH) team in the United Kingdom. He has held visiting professorships, including at the University of Amsterdam and IEDE Business School, Santiago, Chile.
