Physicians for a National Health Program's national coordinator is Dr. Claudia Fegan. She has been on national television and radio shows on behalf of PNHP in her current and previous leadership capacities, and she has testified before congressional committees on a wide range of health care topics. She has given several talks on health care reform in the United States and Canada, both to medical and lay audiences, and is a co-author of the book "Universal Healthcare: What the United States Can Learn from Canada" and a contributor to "10 Excellent Reasons for National Health Care." Dr. Fegan is the chief medical officer at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and the executive medical officer for the Cook County Health and Hospital System. She is also the president of the Health and Medicine Policy Research Group in Chicago. Dr. Fegan was named one of 10 Minority Executives to Watch by Modern Healthcare in 2016, citing her successes in the medical field as well as her single-payer activism. Dr. Fegan obtained her undergraduate and medical degrees from Fisk University and the University of Illinois College of Medicine, respectively.
