It was when Doris started working as a White House Fellow under the presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson in the 1960s that she began to write her first book, Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream. She was praised for her work when she wrote No Ordinary Time (1994), a biography of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, her work earned her a Pulitzer prize. Some of her other books include Team of Rivals about Abraham Lincoln and The Bully Pulpit about Theodore Roosevelt, which further established her as one of the most prominent presidential historians. Doris has also appeared as a commentator on PBS and NBC, providing historical analysis during major national events.
