Deborah Wiles is a Southerner who grew up in Jasper County, Mississippi and in the Air Force. She moved often and Mississippi became her homeplace. Today she writes with great love, humor, and pathos about her Mississippi kin and her childhood. She is the author of picture books and novels for readers young and old, including the beloved Love, Ruby Lavender and Each Little Bird That Sings, a 2005 National Book Award finalist. She is the pioneer of the documentary novel in a trilogy about the 1960s. Countdown  is Book 1. Book 2, Revolution. is a 2014 National Book Award finalist. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
