Dawn Richard has announced the release of her debut LP, Goldenheart, following the success of her highly praised #1 EP, Armor On. The 16-track album is the singer's solo debut, and it introduces fans and novices to the first in a three-part series on love, grief, and redemption. After I announced my intention to quit Bad Boy, there were a lot of skeptics, recalls Richard. However, I am a survivor. I'm a warrior by nature. Not just for myself, but also for people who are similar to me, I have a narrative that has to be shared. Richard released Armor On exclusively on iTunes on March 27, 2012, and the EP charted at #1 on the iTunes R&B/Soul Charts within three hours. The EP also charted at #4 on the Heatseeker Charts, #15 on the Independent Charts, and #28 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Charts on the Billboard Charts. The EP received four out of five stars from Alex Macpherson of the UK Guardian, who described it as "impeccable throughout." Richard was named one of the leaders of New Age R&B by Ptichfork.com, who awarded the EP an 8.5 out of 10 ratings and called her one to watch. There is no label. There is no budget. We went #1 with no features, which is unusual in today's R&B atmosphere, says Richard. This CD was made possible by the efforts of five persons. We're taking the Do-It-Yourself philosophy to a whole new level, and it's a lot of fun. Goldenheart isn't going to be any different. The voices of the hearts [fans] are loud and clear. It is now our turn. Bruski, a Grammy-nominated producer/songwriter, predicts that Goldenheart will change people's lives. It's wonderful to be breaking the mold of R&B in terms of how it sounds, looks, and is disseminated. This type of movement is uncommon in urban music, particularly on the independent level. She's done it before, and I'm sure she'll do it again. Dawn has just released many videos from her popular EP, including Faith, which was directed by Eugene Lee Yang (Marina & The Diamonds). Pretty Wicked Things, a buzz single from the Goldenheart project, was named MTV Buzzworthy's Song of the Week and the most sophisticated song by a member of Danity Kane by MTV Buzzworthy. Her videos, such as Bombs and Automatic, can currently be viewed on BET, MTV Jams, MTV Base (Africa), MTV UK, and MTV2, and her Armor On EP can be purchased on iTunes. 86 is Goldenheart's first official single, which is now available digitally.
