Darrell Scott is the father of the first Columbine victim; Rachel Joy Scott. Since that fateful day in 1999, Darrell has spoken to over 5 million educators, students, parents and professionals in live settings around the world. The story he shares is more relevant today than it’s ever been.

It is a story that brings people together, spurs personal reflection, and sparks change. It includes positive strategies that awaken connection and hope; resulting in fewer disciplinary problems; helping schools, organizations and businesses create a safe environment where achievement can flourish.

An innovative thought leader in the areas of school climate and culture, Darrell has co-authored two books with Dr. Robert Marzano and has received the “Friends of Education” award from the states of Texas and New York. Darrell met with three Presidents and regularly confers with national leaders about best practices for promoting positive climate and culture.

Darrell is also the founder of Rachel’s Challenge, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping schools break down the walls that lead to harassment, isolation and violence. Rachel’s Challenge provides the catalyst for a culture of kindness and respect. Dr. Marzano calls Rachel’s Challenge, “One of the simplest, most powerful interventions I seen in my 45 years of research and training.”

Under Darrell’s leadership, Rachel’s Challenge reaches close to 1 million students and educators annually. Every year the organization receives over 150 unsolicited emails and letters from students who were going to hurt or kill themselves or others, but have received hope, and help, through being involved in Rachel’s Challenge programs.
