Cynthia Lord is a children's author who was born in New Hampshire. Lord's first novel, Rules, was released in 2006 by Scholastic, Inc. and was a 2007 Newberry Honor book and winner of the Schneider Family Book Award. Cynthia Lord's career as a writer began at the age of four, when she collaborated on a song with her sister. The tune was dubbed "Ding Dong the Cherries Sing," and everybody within a 12-mile radius was compelled to listen to them sing it over and over again. Lord describes her as a daydreamer and a timid youngster who would always be thankful for the time and space her parents provided her to be alone. Lord's favorite novels as a child included A.A. Milne's Happy, Peppermint, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Winnie-the-Pooh. She was raised in New Hampshire. Moore, Tyson Lord got some short tales published in college and won a contest with one of them. Lord married and became a teacher after graduating from college. She returned to writing fiction when her children grew older. She usually gets up between 3:30 and 4:00 a.m. That is my just-me time, says the Lord, to open my heart and spill it on the white pages. Lord says she still enjoys watching words leap onto the paper and make people laugh, weep, and shudder with her work. She still enjoys reading a good novel. All these years, Lord has preserved Happy, Peppermint, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Winnie the Pooh. She preserves them as a reminder of the child she once was, the one who enjoyed surfboarding toads, sung the cherry song, and scared herself silly penning her first ghost story. She is the one for whom she writes. Cynthia Lord, her husband, John, and their children, Julia and Gregory, reside in an ancient house. Gregory is autistic. Gregory, Ms. Lord's son, inspired David in the novel Rules, which she authored.
