About Craig Robinson
Craig Robinson Biography
Craig Robinson stars as the title character in the new NBC comedy "Mr. Robinson."
Robinson is arguably best known for his role as acerbic Dunder Mifflin employee Darryl Philbin on NBC's Emmy Award-winning series "The Office."
Robinson was a K-8 teacher in the Chicago public school system. He earned his undergraduate degree from Illinois State University and his master's in education from Saint Xavier University. It was while he was studying education in Chicago that he joined the famed Second City and discovered his love of acting and comedy.
Robinson first made his mark in the comedy circuit at the 1998 Montreal Just for Laughs Festival. That year, he also won the Oakland Comedy Festival Awards and the Miller Genuine Draft 1996 Comedy Search. He soon went on to perform his act on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and "Real Time with Bill Maher." Now headlining venues and festivals across the country, he performs both solo acts as well as full-band sets with the Nasty Delicious, tying his lyrical comedy together with his finesse at the piano.
His rise to success with "The Office" and his stand-up prowess quickly brought him to the attention of industry comedy maven Judd Apatow. Robinson played the sensitive bouncer in the Apatow-directed "Knocked Up" and also co-starred in "Pineapple Express" and "Zack and Miri Make a Porno."
Robinson has recently starred in several films, including the animated "Escape from Planet Earth"; the comedy "Peeples," co-starring Kerry Washington; and "This Is the End," with James Franco and Paul Rudd. He most recently co-starred in "Hot Tub Time Machine 2," the follow-up to his 2010 film "Hot Tub Time Machine."
Other film credits include "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian," "Shrek Forever After," "Father of Invention," "The Goods," "Miss March," "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" and Tyler Perry's "Daddy's Little Girls." On TV, Robinson has appeared in "Friends," "The Bernie Mac Show," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Eastbound & Down," "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "The Cleveland Show."
He also showed his support of gay rights by appearing in the online project "Prop 8: The Musical," with Jack Black, John C. Reilly and Neil Patrick Harris.
Robinson currently resides in Los Angeles.
