About Cheryl Reeve
Cheryl Reeve Biography
Cheryl Reeve will be in her 12th season as Lynx Head Coach and fourth as both Head Coach and General Manager in the 2021 WNBA season. Reeve was awarded Coach of the Year for the third time in her career at the end of the 2020 WNBA regular season, tying Van Chancellor and Mike Thibault for the most all-time. In 2017, she guided the Lynx to their fourth WNBA title in seven years with a 27-7 record. Reeve has a 259-125 lifetime record as the Lynx's head coach, the most coaching victories in team history. On Dec. 8, 2009, she was chosen head coach, succeeding former head coach Jennifer Gillom. Reeve signed a multi-year contract deal with the club on Dec. 6, 2012. Reeve signed a multi-year contract deal with the Lynx prior to the 2016 season. Reeve was named general manager and signed a multi-year contract extension on December 28, 2017. Reeve joins James Wade (Chicago), Curt Miller (Connecticut), Bill Laimbeer (Las Vegas), Mike Thibault (Washington), and Derek Fischer (Washington) as the WNBA's sixth dual Head Coach and General Manager (Los Angeles). The Lynx have won 245 games in the last 11 seasons under Reeve's guidance, making it the most successful 11-year run in WNBA history. Minnesota finished the 2017 season with a 27-7 record, their sixth 25-win season in the previous seven years, making them the first WNBA franchise to win 27 games in a season four times. Reeve's.674 winning percentage (259-125) since taking over in 2010 is the best in league history; she's one of just two managers to win more than 60% of their games (Van Chancellor, .655). Her 42 career playoff triumphs are the most in WNBA history, and her.636 (42-24) postseason winning % is the best in the league. Reeve won her 200th career game against Dallas on June 19, 2018, joining Chancellor and Thibault as the only WNBA coaches to win 200 games with the same team. She surpassed the late Anne Donovan as the league's winningest female head coach and moved into sixth place on the all-time coaching victories list. Reeve was awarded WNBA Coach of the Year after leading the Lynx to their first title in team history in 2011, after leading Minnesota to a league-best 27-7 regular-season record. The Lynx improved 14 games from 2010, making it the WNBA's second-largest single-season victory gain. Reeve went on to win WNBA titles with the Lynx in 2013, 2015, and 2017. Reeve was selected as an assistant coach to the 2014 USA Basketball Women's World Championship Team on May 12, 2014. On Feb. 9, 2014, USA Basketball announced that Reeve would return as an assistant coach for the USA National Team through the 2016 Olympic Games, after aiding head coach Geno Auriemma to a gold medal and a 6-0 record at the 2014 FIBA World Championship. She just joined Dawn Staley's team as an assistant coach for the 2018 USA National Team, who went 6-0 to win gold at the 2018 FIBA World Championship. Reeve also has 26 years of experience coaching at the collegiate and WNBA levels as an assistant and head coach. Reeve began his career as an assistant coach with the WNBA's Detroit Shock in 2009 and was elevated to general manager three games into the season. Reeve joined the Shock coaching staff in 2006, hired by three-time WNBA champion head coach Bill Laimbeer, and helped the team reach the WNBA Finals in each of her first three years, earning WNBA titles in 2006 and 2008. During her four years with Detroit, the club went 87-49 with an average of 18 wins each season, including 24 in 2007. In 2008, Reeve was also the Shock's director of player personnel. In 2001, Reeve joined Anne Donovan's staff as an assistant coach with the Charlotte Sting, where she got her start in the WNBA. Charlotte turned things around in Reeve's first year, going 18-14 and reaching the WNBA Finals after going 8-24 in 2000. Reeve returned to Charlotte for the 2002 season before joining Dan Hughes' coaching staff in Cleveland for the 2003 campaign. In 2004 and 2005, Reeve rejoined the Sting before joining Detroit in 2006. Reeve has a.543 winning % (163-137 W/L) throughout her nine years as an assistant. Reeve spent 12 years coaching collegiately before joining the WNBA coaching ranks, including a five-year stint as head coach at Indiana State from 1995 to 2000. Following the 1998-99 season, Reeve led the Sycamores to their first postseason appearance in 20 years. Reeve also worked as an assistant coach at George Washington for five years. During that period, the Colonials had five 20-win seasons, three Atlantic 10 Conference titles, and four NCAA Tournament appearances. Reeve began her coaching career as an assistant coach at her alma mater, La Salle, where she spent two seasons. Reeve led the nationally rated Explorers to a 25-5 record as a player at La Salle in 1987-1988. As a senior, she was chosen to the All-Metro Atlantic Conference team and the All-Big 5. Reeve is the school's all-time leader in games started (110) and ranks fourth in career assists at La Salle (420). Reeve was a standout athlete and student at La Salle, earning a bachelor's degree in computer science/management information systems. In 1988, Reeve won both a MAAC Scholar-Athlete Post Graduate Award and an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship as a Rhodes Scholar nominee. She went on to get her master's degree in business administration at her alma institution while simultaneously working as an assistant coach for the Explorers for two years.
