Carol Costello Biography

Every weekday, Carol Costello hosts CNN Newsroom from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. (ET). She is based in Atlanta, where the network's global headquarters are located. Costello formerly worked for CNN Daybreak, the network's old early morning news program, and contributed to The Situation Room. President Jimmy Carter, President Ronald Reagan, President George H.W. Bush, and President Bill Clinton have all been interviewed by Costello, who has also covered four presidential inaugurations. Costello covered the Gulf Oil Spill, the 2008 presidential election, and Hurricane Katrina for CNN, which won a Peabody Award. She has also covered the final Space Shuttle launch, the Ohio midterm elections, the Virginia Tech tragedy, the South Asian tsunami catastrophe, the Russian school hostage situation, and Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne during her tenure with CNN. Costello's work has received multiple honors, including an Emmy nomination in 1993 for a series on crack and cocaine, a UPI award, several Associated Press awards, and a UPI award in 1991. Costello joined CNN in October 2001 after five years as an anchor and investigative reporter at WJLA-TV in Washington, D.C. She formerly worked as an anchor and co-anchor at WBAL-TV in Baltimore for three years. She started her career as a weekend anchor and reporter for WAKR-TV in Akron, Ohio, before moving to WBNS-TV in Columbus to become the station's primary weekday anchor. Costello graduated from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, with a journalism degree.
