Bucky Lasek Biography

Becoming the number one vert skater in America is no easy feat. In his eight years as a professional skateboarder, Bucky Lasek has surpassed some of the most notable names in action sport to claim this tital. But for Bucky, it is just another page in the story of his incredibly talented skater's life.

In his home towan of Baltimore, MD, Bucky Lasek(whose real name is Charles )first picked up a skateboard at the age of 12 after his bike was stolen. Soon after he was competing in amateur contests and quickly climbed up the ranks as a professional skateboarder.

Today he is considered one of the world's most consistent vert skateboarders, with a contest repertoire that includes more difficult tricks than any other skater in competition. Known for his smooth, fluid style, Lasek has won 7 X Games medals, five of which have been gold. He continues to maintain his place among the top of the Vert world, taking 2004 titles in the Vans Triple Crown, Gravity Games and the Slam city Jam. Lasek has taken home the X Games Vert Gold 4 times. He not only dominates the vert contest scene, but also repeatedly commands the Best Trick contest as well, proving his aggressive and innovative style. In 2000, Bucky became the first skateboarder ever in the history of X Games to win gold in two consecutive years with back to back wins in 1999 and 2000. He repeated the honor in 2003 and 2004.

Off the ramp, Lasek's schedule is packed with appearances, charity events, autograph signings and managing the day to day business of being a professional skateboarder. He has signature trading cards, action figures, and shoes with Vans. He also has pro model skateboards with Element, a pro model helmet with Pro-Tec, and is a character in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1-4 and Tony Hawk's Underground 1 video games. Lasek has been featured on the cover of Dub Magazine and ESPN the magazine as the first action sport athlete to hold this honor. He has also appeared in Sports Illustrated for Kids, Rolling Stone, Interview, Gear Magazine and appeared as a guest star on Disney's "The Jersey", ESPN/Touchstones's IMAX film Ultimate X, The Today Show and Nickelodeon's Slime time Live.

The world may know him as one of the best skateboarders, but Lasek considers being a husband and a father his greatest accomplishment. When he's not skating Bucky enjoys relaxing at home in Encinitas, CA with his wife and two daughters, working on his house, and hanging out with friends.
