Bruce Schneier was born on the 15th of January, 1963. He is a cryptographer, information security expert, privacy consultant, and writer from the United States. Schneier is a Harvard Kennedy School Lecturer on Public Policy and a Berkman-Klein Center for Internet & Society Fellow. He serves on the boards of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, AccessNow, and the Tor Project, as well as EPIC and VerifiedVoting.org's advisory boards. Inrupt, Inc. in Boston, MA currently employs Schneier as the Chief of Security Architecture. He is a squid enthusiast and the author of many books on general security, information security, and cryptography. Martin Schneier, a Brooklyn Supreme Court lawyer, is the father of Bruce Schneier. He attended P.S. 139 and Hunter College High School in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, where he grew up. He earned his bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Rochester in 1984 and his master's degree in computer science from American University in Washington, D.C. in 1988. In November 2011, he received an honorary Ph.D. from the University of Westminster in London, England. The award was given in honor of Schneier's "hard work and contribution to business and public life" by the Department of Electronics and Computer Science.
