Bruce George Biography

Bruce George is an activist, a visionary, an executive producer, a writer, and a poet. For over 37 years, he has been writing poetry, prose, and essays, and his work has appeared in prominent magazines, anthologies, and literary journals. George has his own grassroots online social network, Ning: The People Power Network. He has teamed up as a Virtual Consultant with Harold Whaley, the COO of Mongram Virtua, and Terry Cyrus, the CEO of OutSpoken Media, in Second Life, a virtual environment. George has been involved in a number of business endeavors since 2007. He is the Executive Consultant of Gumbo for Soul Publications and one of the creators of the "American Experiment Peace Project," an anti-violence/poverty campaign. George is also the International Hip-Hop Speakers Bureau's Executive Consultant/VP of Business Development. In 2006, George became a member of the Host Committee for Kevin Powell's 6th Annual Holiday Party Clothing Drive, which raised money for the needy at The Safe Horizon Street Work Project. He also became an Executive Consultant for Audible, Inc., where he created and provided celebrity podcasting material. For his outstanding vision, production, writing, and performance, George has won numerous poetry contests, talent contests, and awards, including a Peabody Award for Russell Simmons Presents, Def Poetry, a Miky Award for Russell Simmons Presents, Def Poetry Jam, an Upscale Showcase Award, and a Trail Blazer Award. George is the Founder/Executive Consultant of the Ebony Energy Talent Network, which includes prominent artists including Paul Mooney, Rev. Jessie Jackson, Amiri Baraka, The Last Poets, Malik Yoba, Dawn Robinson, and others. He is also the co-founder and Managing Editor of The Bandana Republic, an Anthology of Poetry & Prose by Gang Members & Their Affiliates, and the co-founder and Managing Editor of Russell Simmons' critically acclaimed and award-winning Def Poetry Jam. George is the originator and executive producer of Bone Bristle, A Spoken Word Documentary, a spoken word film that features critically recognized writers, poets, and spoken word performers.
