About Brittany Kaiser

Brittany Kaiser Biography

Brittany Kaiser attended Phillips Academy Andover after attending Houston, Texas, as a child before moving to Chicago as an adult. Following her studies at Edinburgh University, she went on to earn post-graduate degrees from Middlesex University, an LLM in international human rights law from the University of London Birkbeck, and an MA in philosophy in international law and diplomacy from The University of Edinburgh (all with honors). Kaiser, who has always been an ardent supporter of progressive politics, volunteered for Barack Obama's senatorial campaign while still in high school, as well as the presidential campaigns of Howard Dean and John Kerry. Before deciding to back Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary in 2015, she worked full-time for a summer in 2007 on the new media team of President Obama's presidential campaign, and in 2014 she volunteered for the "Ready for Hillary" cause. Kaiser spent several years working on human rights initiatives around the world after volunteering for these political candidates. She did so by working for Amnesty International, advocating at the United Nations and European Parliament to stop crimes against humanity, and assisting with human rights research initiatives in Asia and Africa. Kaiser assisted in founding a business to host diplomatic meetings in Libya after Gaddafi was overthrown, including ones on commerce and investment. Her main driving force was to support the cause of human rights in that nation. She also began working on her Ph.D. in preventative diplomacy, where she studied the creation of data-driven early-warning systems to stop potential genocides. Additionally, she started advising international political campaigns and human rights attorneys. Alexander Nix, CEO of Cambridge Analytica, was drawn to her actions and her history with the Democratic party. In late 2014, he made Kaiser an offer to work as a business development consultant at the SCL Group, which was Cambridge Analytica's parent firm at the time. Because of her experience with Cambridge Analytica, Kaiser is even more certain that individuals need and deserve more control over how their data is used and how much money is made from it. She spends her time looking at methods to provide people more control over, protection over, and ownership of their digital rights, assets, and identities. Kaiser provided her support to governments and commercial businesses throughout 2018 as they created policies and plans for blockchain and data technology. She started advocating for legislation to preserve digital rights, including establishing digital assets as property for each individual before she met with The Guardian in March. Following her first interviews with whistleblowers, Kaiser launched the #OwnYourData campaign, urging businesses like Facebook to amend their terms of service so that users have access to transparency, opt-in, and property/monetization rights over the data generated on their platforms. In order to contribute to the creation of solutions that support openness, consent-based data sharing, data sovereignty, and cybersecurity, Kaiser has joined the boards of over ten ethical technology businesses. She recently joined the board of The Center for Data Privacy, which helped people safeguard their legal rights over their personal data and seek compensation for data breaches, and won the first lawsuit against Equifax. "Targeted: The Cambridge Analytica Whistleblower's Inside Story of How Big Data, Trump, and Facebook Broke Democracy," a new book from Harper Collins, is also written by Kaiser. On October 22, 2019, this book will have a global non-fiction debut, and it will continue to be released in new regions through 2020. Kaiser is regarded as a specialist in blockchain technology, digital asset law, and data usage. She discusses these subjects in public settings and at conferences all around the world to encourage long-lasting change and the acceptance of moral standards for online behavior.
