Keilar also participated in the network's Emmy Award-winning election night coverage during America's Choice 2012 coverage, reporting on President Obama's campaign, the Democratic National Convention, and the network's Emmy Award-winning election night coverage. Prior to reporting to the White House, Keilar worked as a legislative journalist, covering both the House and Senate of the United States.

She received the Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting of Congress from the National Press Foundation for her coverage of the $700 billion bank bailout in the fall of 2008.

Prior to covering Congress, Keilar worked for CNN as a general assignment journalist, covering a variety of topics, including the 2007 Virginia Tech tragedy, when she was the first CNN reporter on the scene.

Keilar began her career at CNN in 2006 as a CNN Newsource reporter, where she delivered breaking news coverage and reported from the nation's capital for over 800 CNN Newsource partner stations. She came to Newsource from CBS News, where she was an anchor, reporter, and producer for a CBS broadcast that aired on MTV's student network, mtvU.

She was also a freelance reporter for CBS Evening News Weekend Edition and a fill-in anchor for CBS News' overnight broadcast, Up to the Minute. Prior to joining CBS, Keilar worked as a general assignment correspondent for KIMA-TV, a CNN and CBS affiliate in Yakima, Washington.

She also worked in radio as a morning show host and weekend newsreader at that period. Keilar began her career in journalism as a production assistant and intern at KTVU-TV in San Francisco, a CNN and FOX affiliate. Keilar earned bachelor's degrees in mass communications and psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, Phi Beta Kappa.
