Bret Johnsen Biography

Bret Johnsen serves as SpaceX's chief financial officer, supervising the company's long-term financial development, interacting with the financial community, and managing the company's internal financial operations. Johnsen joins SpaceX with more than 20 years of financial management expertise, much of it in high-profile, publicly listed firms. Since joining SpaceX in 2011, he has held this position. Johnsen previously spent over a decade at Broadcom, the world's biggest maker of semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, where he assisted in the company's transformation into a Fortune 500 technological leader. He began his career at Broadcom as a controller for a number of business areas and swiftly progressed through the ranks. He was eventually promoted to vice president, corporate controller, and lead accounting officer, in charge of an 80-person accounting team, spread over nine countries. After leaving Broadcom, Johnsen worked at Mindspeed Technologies as senior vice president and chief financial officer. The Orange County Business Journal honored him as CFO of the Year in 2010 for guiding the chipmaker through the crisis by reducing expenses, restructuring debt, selling stock, and generating cash through patent sales. Johnsen graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor's degree in accounting and San Diego State University with a master's degree in finance. In the state of California, he is a certified public accountant.
