Brad Barber Biography

Brad Barber is the Gallagher Professor of Finance at the University of California, Davis' Graduate School of Management. Barber is regarded as one of the world's most extensively quoted financial economists (ranking 38th in one citation survey). He was named a Fellow of the Financial Management Association (FMA) in 2019, a designation that “... recognizes people who have made substantial contributions to the profession.” He was also elected President of the FMA in 2018 and served in that capacity. He is now a member of the Academic Female Finance Finance Committee (AFFECT) and the Principles of Responsible Investment Advisory Boards (PRI). He was the finance department editor for Management Science and a Principal Investigator for the CalPERS Sustainable Research Initiative (SIRI, 2012-2016). (2009-2012). The Napa Finance Conference was founded by him. Barber focuses on asset pricing, behavioral finance, and private equity in his studies. He has published scholarly articles in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Political Economy, Quarterly Journal of Economics, American Sociological Review, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and the Financial Analyst Journal, among others. His study has been featured in Business Week, Time, The Wall Street Journal, ABC News, NBC Nightly News, CNN, CNNfn, and CNBC, among other publications. Barber also discussed the stock market's drop in anticipation of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. The epidemic is putting further strain on the global supply system, which is already under strain because of trade difficulties. Barber graduated from the University of Chicago with a Ph.D. in finance in 1991. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Economics and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
