Bob Griese Biography

Direct frank commentary and skillful use of a telestrator during replays have helped distinguish Griese as an insightful and enlightening analyst. He was a top analyst for NBC Sport's NFL coverage from 1982 through 1986.In addition to his regular season NFL and NCAA broadcasts he has also covered numerous post-season bowl games including the NFL Super Bowl XX college football's Aloha Bowl Fiesta Bowl Sugar Bowl Orange Bowl and the Rose Bowl.
Known as the thinking man's quarterback during his brilliant 14-year NFL career with the Miami Dolphins (1967-1980) Griese was renowned for his poised leadership and ingenious play-calling during the Dolphin's dominance of the NFL in the early 1970s. He helped lead Miami to a perfect 17-0 record in the 1972 season when the Dolphins won their first Super Bowl title and the following year led Miami to a second consecutive Super Bowl championship.
Griese's jersey #12 is the only one to have been retired by the Miami Dolphins. He was one of the original group of players named to the Dolphin Honor Roll established to honor the most outstanding individuals in Dolphin history. He was elected by the fans to be the quarterback of the Dolphin's Silver Anniversary team commemorating their first 25 years. Griese was the first quarterback to wear eyeglasses while playing and a pair of his glasses is on exhibit in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
