About Bill Cowan
Bill Cowan Biography
William V. Cowan, often known as Bill Cowan, is a retired United States Marine Corps lieutenant colonel, a public speaker on national security and terrorism, and a former Fox News Channel commentator from 2001 until 2016. At the age of 17, he joined in the United States Navy, was appointed to and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1966, and was commissioned as a lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He then served in Vietnam for three and a half years. He was a platoon leader with the 3rd Battalion, 26th Marines along the DMZ and during the siege of Khe Sanh on his first tour, and then served as the director of the 3rd Marine Division's Kit Carson Scouts program for five months. For two and a half years, he served as an advisor to the South Vietnamese military in the Rung Sat Special Zone, beginning in 1969. In April 1983, he was asked by the Intelligence Support Activity (ISA) to replace the former U.S. Marine representative as ISA deputy operations officer, after being given a post in the White House Science Advisor's office. He turned down the White House invitation and instead joined ISA, where he participated in a number of operations as an agent, including being part of the squad that tracked down and targeted the perpetrators of the Beirut Marine barracks attack, which killed 241 troops (220 Marines, 18 Navy personnel and 3 Army personnel). He left the Marine Corps because of what he saw as the Pentagon's slowness in dealing with the event. He served as a legislative assistant to Senator Warren B. Rudman during the Iran Contra hearings and was a major staff member in crafting the legislation that established the US Special Operations Command in Tampa, Florida, after retiring from the ISA. He is well-known across the world for his ability to organize and carry out tough and often deadly counter-terrorism, intelligence, and military special operations. He was a Fox News Channel contributor from 2001 to 2016, a co-host on the radio and television show Danger Zone with Ambassador Dick Carlson, and he has written articles for The Washington Times, The Washington Post, The Daily Caller, Breitbart, The Hill, and he has been featured in several television shows other than the documentary, including 60 Minutes, Larry King Live, and others. With Dick Carlson, he co-wrote Snatching Hillary, A Satirical Novel.
