Bertrand Badre Biography

Bertrand Badré is the Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of the World Bank Group. He is responsible for the World Bank Group's financial and risk management strategies, as well as the Group's institutions. This involves the creation of new, innovative financial goods and services, financial reporting supervision, and financial resource mobilization in accordance with the Group's strategy. Mr. Badré represents the Group at the Financial Stability Board, where he participates in the worldwide discussion on financial standards and best practices. Mr. Badré is also in charge of the Vice Presidency for Information and Technology Solutions, as well as the General Services Department. In March 2013, Mr. Badré joined the World Bank. He was formerly the Group Chief Financial Officer of Société Général, and before that, from July 2007 to July 2011, he was the Group Chief Financial Officer of Crédit Agricole. Mr. Badré was the Managing Director of Lazard in Paris from 2004 to 2007, where he was in charge of the Financial Services Group. He was invited to join President Chirac's diplomatic team in 2003, and he was heavily involved in the planning of the G8 meeting in Evian. He was the President's deputy personal representative for Africa at the time, as well as a spokesman for The Landau Report's working group on additional international financial commitments to fight poverty and finance development. In 2002, he was a member of Michel Camdessus's World Panel on Financing Water Infrastructure, a group of financial professionals tasked with assessing methods to draw resources to the water sector. Mr. Badré joined Lazard in 1999 and worked as an Assistant Director in London for 18 months before moving to New York as a Director in the mergers and acquisitions department, focusing on the financial services industry. He worked for the French National Audit Office from 1995 to 1999 at the French Ministry of Finance, where he supervised a variety of control, audit, and consulting missions. He was assigned to the World Bank in Togo at this time to assist the Ministry of Agriculture with budget issues. He started his work in 1989 as an Assistant Group Controller at BFI-Ibexsa, a Franco-American firm that is currently owned by Avnet. Mr. Badré has represented on a number of boards, including the Eurazeo Supervisory Board from 2010 to 2012, the Haulotte Group since 2005, and various boards of the leading French regional daily Newspaper Group Ouest France, as well as representing Crédit Agricole and Sociéte Générale on the boards of a number of their subsidiaries. Mr. Badré is a graduate of the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris and the ENA (Ecole Nationale d'Administration). He also studied history at Paris IV University (La Sorbonne) and received his MBA from HEC (Paris Hautes Études Commerciales). Vanessa is his wife, and they have four children together.
