Barrington Levy Biography

Barrington Levy is a dancehall and reggae musician. He was born in Jamaica and quickly started a band with his cousin called the Mighty Multitude. My Black Girl, a 1977 album by the cousins, was released. Levy opted to pursue a solo career the next year. At the time, he was barely fourteen years old. Soon after, Levy met record producers Junjo Lawes and Hyman Wright and recorded a number of singles that helped launch his career. Shine Eye Girl, Wicked Intention, Jumpy Girl, Skylarking, Disco Music, Reggae Music, Never Tear My Love Apart, Jah, You Made Me So Happy, and When You're Young and in Love were among Levy's next few singles, all of which were huge hits. In 1980 and 1981, Levy performed at Reggae Sunsplash and recorded many duets with Toyan, Jah Thomas, and Trinity. By the 1980s, Levy had established himself as one of Jamaica's biggest performers, and his worldwide renown was expanding as well, particularly in England. After a hiatus from records, Levy returned with a string of hit songs that cemented his reputation as one of the greatest Jamaican performers of all time.
