Astro Teller Biography

Dr. Astro Teller is currently an overseer of Google X Google’s moonshot factory for building magical audacious ideas that can be brought to reality through science and technology. Teller is also a co-founder and current director of a hedge fund management firm, Cerebellum Capital Inc, whose investments are continuously designed executed and improved by a software system based on techniques from statistical machine learning. Along with this, Teller was the CEO and co-founder of a leading, wearable body monitoring company, BodyMedia, that was sold to Jawbone in 2013. From the year 2007 to 2010, Astro Teller was also the founding CEO of Cerebellum Capital. Teller also founded and was the CEO of BodyMedia Inc. from 1999 to 2007. Additionally, Teller co-founded and was the chairman of an intellectual property holding company named Zivio Technologies from the year 2003 to 2010. Dr. Teller was also a co-founder, chairman, and CEO of an advanced development technology company, Sandbox Advanced Development, prior to starting BodyMedia. Teller previously taught at Stanford University and was both an engineer and researcher for Pheonix Laser Technologies Stanford’s Center for Integrated Systems and The Carnegie Group Incorporated before his tenure as a business executive. Dr. Astro Teller obtained his Bachelor of Science in computer science and his Master of Science in symbolic and heuristic computation from Stanford University and his Ph.D. in artificial intelligence from Carnegie Mellon University where he also received the prestigious Hertz fellowship.
