The Emmy Award-winning anchor of WCVB Channel 5's nightly news magazine "Chronicle" is Anthony Everett. In September 2005, he began the program. He's also been a co-anchor on NewsCenter 5 at 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. Everett has won many Emmy Awards, including one in 2016 for his reporting on education and another in 2017 for his reporting on the high cancer rate among Boston firefighters. He won an Emmy in 2015 for his coverage of Alzheimer's disease as a societal issue. He also won an Emmy for hosting a show on Holiday Lights in 2015 and a special on the 125th anniversary of the Boston Pops in 2011. In 2010, he won an Emmy for his performance as the presenter of "Chronicle." In 2009, he won Emmys for his reporting on the recycling business, as well as in 2008 for a piece on special education. Everett won first place in the National Headliner award for Health and Science reporting in 2015. The Improper Bostonian magazine also awarded "Chronicle" Boston's Best Local TV Program in 2010. Everett has covered significant national events and breaking news for WCVB, as well as routinely contributing to special reports for all WCVB newscasts. His outstanding reporting abilities have helped WCVB win several honors, including the Edward R. Murrow Awards for News Series and News Documentary in 2013, the Associated Press Awards for Investigative and Documentary Reporting in 2012, and the National Headliner Award for Breaking News in 2003. Everett formerly worked as a co-anchor on the station's weekend newscasts at noon, 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. Everett was honored twice by the National Headliner Awards in the area of "Spot News" during this time. Everett shared the Associated Press' "Best Newscast" award in 2000 for his efforts in the early evening. Everett was also named "Best Newscaster" in Boston by readers of The Improper Bostonian magazine in 2000. He's also received a number of other honors, including the National Headliner Award in 1996 and the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association's First Place award for spot news coverage. The RTNDA honored him with the "Continuing Coverage" award in 1993, while the Associated Press honored him in the same area in 1991. Collaborations with organizations such as the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Habitat for Humanity, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Boston Healthcare for the Homeless, the Boston Ballet, the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, the Home for Little Wanderers, Derby Academy, and others have resulted from Everett's commitment to charitable work. Everett earned the Public Education Award in 1992 and one of the Society's highest distinctions, the Partners in Progress Award, in 2006 as a longstanding supporter, volunteer, and board member for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Everett began his career as a general assignment reporter at WCVB's NewsCenter 5 in 1990. Prior to joining Channel 5, Everett worked at WVIT-TV, the NBC affiliate in Hartford, CT, as a general assignment reporter and weekday anchor on the 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts. Everett began his professional broadcasting career in 1984 at KSPN-TV in Aspen, Colorado, as a sports reporter and anchor. He went on to become the news director of KSPN, where he stayed until 1987. Everett graduated from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. He is now a guest lecturer in the Film and Media Studies Program at Tufts University.
