Ann McElhinney is an investigative reporter and cinematographer. She's worked on documentaries for the BBC, CBC (Canada), and RTE (Ireland) (Ireland). Ann has worked as a filmmaker and journalist in Indonesia, Romania, Vietnam, Cambodia, Uganda, Madagascar, and Uzbekistan, among other nations. Ann went undercover and surreptitiously filmed a corrupt baby trafficking network in Indonesia for the RTE documentary The Search for Tristan's Mum (RTE, 2005). She brought attention to the case of Tristan Dowse, a baby who was adopted in Indonesia by an Irish man and his wife. When the adopted mother fell pregnant two years later, they abandoned Tristan in an Indonesian orphanage. The situation infuriated Ireland, so McElhinney hunted out Tristan's biological mother and entered the baby-selling network as a potential adoption. Tristan now lives with his birth mother in Indonesia as a consequence of the documentary, and the baby dealers are serving lengthy prison sentences. To safeguard Tristan's interests, the Irish government sought a high court protection order, and Justice John McMenamin remarked in his ruling that McElhinney deserved the "highest of praise" for her investigative journalism. McElhinney appeared in and was an Associate Producer on the CBC documentary Return to Sender (2005) and the BBC documentary Romanian Twins (2004). Not Evil Just Wrong, a film she created and filmed in 2009, investigated and criticized contemporary worries about global warming. The film exposes the sad repercussions of the environmental movement's first victory, the DDT prohibition, which has led to the unnecessary deaths of more than 40 million children and adults in poor countries. McElhinney also produced and directed Mine Your Own Business (2006), the first documentary to confront the environmental movement with challenging concerns. As a result, when the video was exhibited in the National Geographic auditorium in Washington, DC, 80 NGOs, including Greenpeace, demanded that it be banned. She has contributed to a number of publications, including The Sunday Times in the United Kingdom and The Irish Times in Ireland. She has lately presented at conferences in Washington, D.C., New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Toronto, Phoenix, San Diego, St. Louis, Santa Barbara, and Salt Lake City, among others.
